About Me

I'm Sean — a product designer from Malaysia, now based in Melbourne.

I studied design at the University of Melbourne and spent most of that time being more interested in figuring out why things don't work than how they look. That hasn't changed. I still care more about the problem than the pixels.

Now I work embedded in startup teams, helping pre-seed and seed founders turn ambiguous ideas into products that actually ship. If you've just raised funding and need senior design without the senior hire — that's my thing.

What I'm like to work with

I ask a lot of questions before I design anything.

I'd rather spend a day understanding your problem properly than a week designing the wrong solution. My first instinct isn't to open Figma — it's to ask "why?" until we've found the real issue. Some founders find this annoying at first. All of them appreciate it later.

I treat your product like it's my own.

I don't just execute briefs. I'll push back on ideas that don't serve your users, suggest things you haven't considered, and care about your metrics as much as you do. When I'm embedded in your team, I'm not thinking like a contractor. I'm thinking like a co-founder who happens to specialise in design.

I'm direct, even when it's uncomfortable.

If something isn't going to work, I'll say so — respectfully, with reasoning, but clearly. I'd rather have an honest 5-minute conversation now than let a bad decision cost you weeks of development later. I'm not here to make you feel good about every idea. I'm here to help you ship the right product.

I care more about the problem than the pixels.

Pretty screens are easy. Figuring out what to build, who it's for, and why it matters — that's the hard part. I spend more time on strategy, user flows, and product thinking than I do on visual polish. The polish comes, but it comes after the foundation is right.

I don't just design products — I build them too

Outside of client work, I'm building Onz — a food discovery platform that tackles decision fatigue. You know that thing where you spend 15 minutes scrolling through options trying to decide where to eat? Onz aims to cut that to under 2 minutes by curating recommendations based on your personal taste profile.

I'm designing and building the MVP myself, which means I deal with the same problems my clients do — prioritising features, making trade-offs, shipping with constraints. It keeps me sharp and gives me empathy for what founders go through every day.

It also means when I say "I treat your product like my own" — I know exactly what that feels like.
